This fish is one of the most impressive, beautiful species of Apistogramma, once it settles in and grows up a bit. Unfortunately, they're still about six months away from looking like much beyond a small, grey Apisto! However, give these guys a try, and you won't be disappointed once they mature. A wild caught variant of Apistogramma hongsloi, these fish will do best given soft, acidic water. We recommend the addition of oak or beech leaves to provide tanins, or simply driftwood. Suggested tank mates for these fish would include any other neotropical tetras, pencilfish, or hatchet fish. Smaller members of the rainbowfish genus Pseudomugil also mix well with these fishes. |
