Apistogramma bitaeniata has a number of variants, depending on location, and these F1 and F2 Shushupe are one of most beautiful types. It is likely that many of these local types, including Shushupe, may be promoted to full species as work on this complex progresses. As such, care should be taken to avoid mixing any locations of Bitaeniata, as they may hybridise.

These are a fairly peaceful Apisto, and one of the smaller types, with a maximum size seldom reaching 3". Care should be taken to avoid mixing them with larger fish, as they often cannot compete. We recommend fish such as the tiny Ember Tetras, the various Microrasboras, and small catfishes.
