Apistogramma trifasciata

Apistogramma trifasciata is one of the most unusually coloured fish out there, with lots of blues and greens on the body. It is a truly bright, striking fish that makes an excellent addition to any peaceful, community aquarium. While this fish will survive in neutral pH water, for the best colouration and also for breeding, you really want to keep these fish very soft, moderately acidic water, often with the addition of tannins from driftwood or leaf litter.

Trifasciata tends to be fairly peaceful, though males tend to fight. Multiple females can be maintained with a single male, who will often spawn with all available females. Like most harem spawners, the male will generally ignore the eggs and fry, leaving parenting duties to the female.

This fish can be maintained with peaceful, small, shoaling tetras, such as Glowlight Tetras, Ember Tetras, or any types of pencilfish.
