Serpae Tetra, Hyphessobrycon eques

There are few fish that compare to the Serpae Tetra for bright red in the aquarium. These active, shoaling tetras make a great addition to virtually any community aquarium, and will be sure to add both a lot of colour and a lot of movement. Care should be taken when keeping Serpae Tetras with slow moving fishes, as Serpaes may prevent these fish from obtaining food. Fish with long fins, such as angelfish, may get nipped. Otherwise, the Serpae Tetra is a reasonably peaceful fish.
A planted aquarium really helps to bring out their colour, as does a great diet. We recommend New Era Tropical Flakes or Pellets for the best colour. Serpae tetras may also be used as dither fish with most dwarf cichlids.
