Thorichthys pasionis

The Firemouth Cichlids of the genus Thorichthys are some of the most under-appreciated cichlids in the aquarium hobby, undoubtedly because they're often seen in a dealers tank among "mixed new world cichlids." The firemouth itself is a fairly peaceful, shy cichlid, and does not do well with boisterous, aggressive fishes, like convicts and dempseys. The same holds true for this fish, the Passionate Firemouth, or Yellow Firemouth. While the common firemouth (T. meeki) has a bright red gullet, this fish has a bright yellow, golden gullet.
Other than the colour difference, it is quite similar to the commonly encountered firemouth. These fish will due well in a sand substrate, which they can sift. They're not particularly aggressive, and will mix well with any other small fishes that they can't eat. Large, active danios, rainbowfish, rasboras, or barbs are all good mixes, as are any number of catfish, including Corydoras type catfishes.
The Passionate Firemouth is easy to keep, feed, and breed, and a highly recommended cichlid!
