The Siquia Convict Cichlid

This fish is often confused with the "Honduran Red Point," which appears to be a closely related fish, possibly a variant of this same species; however, this fish is much more red, and males tend toward orange nad yellow in the fins, rather than the red of the HRP. Closely related to Convicts, the Siquia tends to be a little less aggressive, though care should be taken with any tankmates when these fish are breeding (which is fairly easy).

These fish are generally quite boisterous in the aquarium, and while generally not terribly aggressive, can certainly hold their own. They are generally forgiving of water conditions, provided the water is clean and well oxygenated.

Non aggressive tank mates can be mixed with this fish, provided they are of sufficient size to not be eaten. Other cichlids that can be mixed would include any of the various Acara, the various Earth-Eaters and similar, and the Firemouths. Non-cichlid tank mates, particularly as dither fish, include essentially any larger body Rainbowfish, large danios or tetras, and fairly large bodied catfishes.
