The genus Nandopsis contains a number of larger, aggressive cichlids. The Red Terror Cichlid is a large, aggressive eating machine, and will gulp down any prey items which can fit into its mouth. They can be rather aggressive with each other and with other fishes.

Care should be taken to avoid placing these fish with smaller tank mates, as these are apt to be eaten. They will generally mix well with ohter non cichlids, provided these fish are of good size and fairly active. Large rainbowfish, barbs, and the like are all good choices. Similarly aggessive cichlids may be mixed with these fish, with caution.

We sell only juveniles at about 2-3", but be prepared for this fish to get much, much larger. There are mixed reports of adult males reaching sizes of up to two feet, with females staying at about half this size. Be aware that the fish is completely intollerant of other Red Terrors, as well as other similar cichlids. While rather drab as a juvenile, this fish will develop into a brilliant, tiger striped red fish!
