The Gold Barb, Barbodes semifasciolatus, is an excellent community aquarium fish

The Gold Barb is a bright yellow fish, frequently found in aquarium stores. Interestingly, this is not a natural colouration, but a domestic mutation, and wild "gold barbs" are actually a beautiful greenish grey, though these fish are seldom found in the aquarium trade. The Gold Barb is quite hardy, and not at all particular about aquarium conditions. These are peaceful fish, and will not nip fins or otherwise bother aquarium residents. Gold Barbs are shoaling fish, and should never maintained in groups of less than six.
