The Bloodfin Tetra is one of the traditional staples of the aquarium hobby. Their bright red fins really set these fish off, and they will look their best in a small shoal of about 8-12 fishes. Bloodfin tetras prefer soft, acidic water, and are intolerant of high levels of nitrate or other organic wastes. They will do exceptional well in a planted tank. Bloodfins mix well with other small, active tetras, Corydoras and standard "community" aquarium fishes. They may also be used as a dither fish with many of the larger species of Apistogramma (such as the Cockatoos).
